Why does EKKIRENT choose azobé/ekki for heavy timber matting?
When EKKIRENT was founded, the choice of timber species was anything but random. On site, crane mats take extreme loads, day after day, in all weather. The goal was clear: offer the strongest and most durable option available, and on that point there is no debate: it is azobé.
Azobé, also known as ekki, is a tropical hardwood from West and Central Africa. It is one of the densest timbers in the world, with an average density of 1060 kg/m³. It is naturally rot-proof, termite resistant, and can be used in permanent contact with soil and water without any chemical treatment. It is the benchmark material for heavy timber matting worldwide, exactly what EKKIRENT crane mats are built for: to take the load, protect the ground, and last.
EKKIRENT guarantees the traceability of its timber: factory visits, documented origin, and compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
